The open collection of app manifests behind winget install, maintained on GitHub by Microsoft and the community.
Search thousands of packages, read the official docs, or learn how to publish your own.
The Windows Package Manager (winget) is a command-line tool for discovering and installing apps on Windows. The Community Repository is the open set of package definitions it uses by default.
Everything lives in microsoft/winget-pkgs. Each package version is described by small YAML manifests (version, installer and locale files) under manifests/.
The repository doesn't host installers. Manifests point at the publisher's own download and include a hash so winget can verify it.
When you run winget install, the client looks packages up in this repository's index, then downloads and installs straight from the publisher.
PS> winget search powertoys PS> winget install --id Microsoft.PowerToys -e PS> winget upgrade --all
Anyone can add or update a package by opening a pull request. Submissions go through automated validation and are reviewed by moderators before they're published.
That's why you'll see both big vendors and small independent tools listed side by side.
A quick overview. The documentation below has the full rules and the current requirements.
Describe your app's installer URL, hash, name, publisher and license in YAML, by hand or with a tool like WingetCreate.
Check the manifest against the schema and try installing it locally or in Windows Sandbox before you submit.
Submit your manifest to microsoft/winget-pkgs. Automated checks run straight away.
Once validation passes and a moderator approves, the package becomes available to everyone through winget.
Everything you need to use winget, author manifests and contribute packages, straight from Microsoft and the repository itself.
